Leveraging Apprenticeships To Build The Healthcare Talent Pipeline

08/27/2026

Healthcare employers across the country are facing unprecedented workforce challenges, from persistent staffing shortages to increasing demand for skilled professionals across the care economy. Registered Apprenticeship (RA) programs have emerged as a proven solution for recruiting, developing, and retaining talent through structured, high-quality, earn-while-you-learn career pathways.

Join this interactive virtual Healthcare Registered Apprenticeship Accelerator to explore how apprenticeship can strengthen your workforce strategy and build sustainable talent pipelines. Participants will gain a practical understanding of Registered Apprenticeships, learn how North Carolina’s Business Committee for Education (NCBCE) and NC Career Launch are advancing apprenticeship initiatives, and discover the resources available to support program development and expansion.

Using real-world examples from the rapidly growing care economy—including occupations supporting individuals with physical, mental, and behavioral health needs—this session will provide a step-by-step roadmap for developing successful apprenticeship programs. Participants will learn how to engage employers and workforce partners, navigate the apprenticeship registration process, identify funding opportunities, and leverage local Workforce Development Boards and community partners to build impactful programs.

This accelerator is designed for workforce development professionals, healthcare employers, education and training providers, community-based organizations, and economic development partners seeking practical strategies to address healthcare workforce shortages through Registered Apprenticeships.

Participants will learn how to:

  • Understand the business value and workforce impact of Registered Apprenticeships.
  • Separate apprenticeship myths from reality and explore successful training models.
  • Develop and register a Registered Apprenticeship program.
  • Engage local Workforce Development Boards and key workforce partners.
  • Identify funding opportunities, including resources supporting the care economy.
  • Access apprenticeship toolkits, technical assistance, and next-step resources to launch or expand apprenticeship initiatives.
