Google and NAWB to help U.S. workforce development boards offer the Google Career
Certificates
Today the National Association of Workforce Boards (NAWB) announced Google as its newest Business Alliance Champion. Together, NAWB and Google will work with U.S. workforce development boards to engage the Google Career Certificates and build local hiring consortiums to help connect certificate completers with jobs.
Google’s Career Certificates are designed to give jobseekers skills to start or advance their
career in the high-demand fields of IT Support, User Experience Design, Data Analytics and
Project Management, and connects them to employers who are hiring for related roles. This
new collaboration will help increase awareness of Google Career Certificates and the skilled
talent they produce among workforce development boards, one-stop centers, and employers.
Participating hiring consortium employers are able to easily tap local program completers
through the free resources Google provides. The hiring consortium currently includes over 80
employers of all sizes and from all sectors including Walmart, Hulu and Sprint.
“COVID-19 has accelerated permanent changes in our workforce system, especially with regard to technology, artificial intelligence and remote work,” says Ron Painter, CEO of NAWB. “As a Champion of our Business Alliance, this collaboration will help more Americans develop digital skills and find meaningful, long-term employment in an uncertain landscape. The demand for significant technology and digital work skills will continue to rise --even after the pandemic.”
The Google Career Certificates are a part of Grow with Google, the company’s initiative that
helps deliver economic opportunity through free training and tools to help all Americans grow their skills, careers and businesses.
"Google wants to ensure that all Americans have access to the digital skills needed to be
successful in the job market,” said Lisa Gevelber, Vice President, Grow with Google. "We're
proud to work with NAWB to help workforce development boards equip jobseekers with tools
and training to increase their economic potential."
