PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

What is Professional Development?

One of NAWB's main goals is to provide the field of workforce development boards with knowledge and training through learning opportunities, in addition to creating a community-based platform for WDBs. NAWB is bringing subject matter experts to our members through our regularly-scheduled Town Halls and webinars to keep the field updated on the latest information and technical assistance. We will also be providing spaces for peer-to-peer dialogue through our live "Coffee and Conversations" and helping our members share and gain insight on what issues being faced across the country and the innovative solutions being implemented to solve them.

This page will be updated frequently as new opportunities become available so make sure to check back weekly.

Town Halls

As the nation has adapted to a new era of communication and learning, many workforce boards continue to seek clarity, look for best practices, and prepare for a wide range of issues on the horizon. These Town Hall sessions begin to explore what are regulatory questions, what we need legislation from, and other issues facing Workforce Boards across the country. Do not miss out on this opportunity to hear from subject matter experts, peers, and NAWB.

Webinars

NAWB webinars are another educational platform designed to offer detailed analysis on specialized, unique topics. They are usually focused on distinct content areas and can be either a series or stand-alone sessions. Due to their size, webinars are more on the interactive side (when they are live) and meant to focus on technical assistance and learning, rather than the informative overview as seen with the Town Halls. Presenters are subject matter experts from the workforce development board community, NAWB Business Alliance members, and other stakeholders or partnering organizations. Keep an eye out for these to be continuously added to the Professional Development webpage and also in the monthly NAWB Digest.

Coffee and Conversations

Originating at NAWB's all-virtual The Forum 2020, Coffee and Conversations sessions consist of peer-to-peer discussions of best practices in an informal setting. The topics will change, but the general idea is to discuss a problem or concept and hear what your colleagues are doing to address this across the country while adding your own experiences to the dialogue. At The Forum, the participants discussed the topic of the best re-opening strategies and which of these were effective versus those that weren't. These are for NAWB members only and will not be recorded.
