About the Cloud Skills Gap

Cloud computing is the on-demand delivery of IT resources over the internet with pay-as-you-go pricing. Business considerations like affordability, agility, and flexibility have accelerated cloud migration around the world with companies investing in cloud solutions now more than ever. But, the rapid adoption of cloud services comes with an insufficient supply of properly trained and certified IT professionals ready to meet workforce demands. According to 451 Research, the cloud skills gap has nearly doubled in the past three years, with 85% of organizations reporting deficits in cloud expertise. In addition, a study from LinkedIn found that nearly 80% of IT decision makers report their teams lack the cloud computing skills they need. In 2021, there were nearly 3.2M cloud job vacancies in the United States.

AWS Training and Certification

AWS Training and Certification equips learners and organizations across the globe with cloud computing education to build and validate in-demand cloud computing skills. Learners of various skill levels, roles, and backgrounds can build knowledge and practical skills through live classroom training and more than 500 free online courses in AWS Skill Builder. AWS Certification enables learners to validate their cloud computing expertise with an industry-recognized credential. We also help cultivate the next generation of cloud professionals through our Education Programs, including AWS Educate, AWS Academy, and AWS re/Start, which provide cloud skills training and AWS Certification opportunities to young adults and individuals re-entering the workforce.

Workforce and Education Programs

AWS Academy

AWS Academy provides higher education institutions around the world with a free, ready-to-teach cloud computing curriculum that prepares learners to pursue industry-recognized AWS Certifications and in-demand cloud jobs. In 2021, NOVA helped more than 150 individuals prepare for and earn AWS Certifications, including AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner and AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate.

AWS re/Start

AWS re/Start is a full-time, classroom-based development and training program that prepares individuals for entry-level cloud positions. During the 12 weeks of training, participants engage in scenario-based exercises, labs, and coursework, and learn Linux, Python, networking, security, and relational database skills. Upon completion, AWS re/Start connects graduates with interview opportunities. Spotlight: AWS re/Start worked with the Gulf Coast Workforce Board to find candidates for a 12-week cloud bootcamp. Gulf Coast delivered more than 1,000 applicants in 24 hours.

AWS Training Partners

AWS works with selected training organizations around the globe to deliver training to customers in their preferred language and region. AWS Training Partners (ATPs) meet the robust requirements of AWS course delivery and are the only organizations endorsed by AWS to deliver our classroom and digital training.
